The year is coming to an end yet again, and we want to take some time to reflect on the key events that have happened this year. It has been a game-changing year for RDC and we have had time to stop and think about why we do what we do.
The wedding industry saw an increasing number of vendors and the rise of new social media platforms like Bridestory. The slow economy resulted in many couples holding back on spending for the wedding – which is a wise thing to do, if you’re strapped with cash. We always encourage couples to spend within their means and only splurge on things they are able to afford. Our friends and partners in the industry have agreed that this year has been a slower year.
There are always two ways of looking at a situation and we always try to look on the brighter side of things. It turns out that this year is one of the best years yet in the years I have been running Rosette Designs & Co. It is a year of awakening and digging deeper into the reason behind this endeavor. The year has also brought many new experiences for RDC and some of the highlights of the year include:
Leap Inspire 2016
Earlier this year in January, I attended Leap Inspire 2016 in Siem Reap, Cambodia. It was the first local conference for Creative Entrepreneurs mostly from the wedding industry because it was hosted by Heaven’s Gift, one of the top wedding planners in Singapore. Hannah, the founder and creative director, succesfully brought about 200 business owners from Singapore and neighbouring countries like Indonesia, to Siem Reap. It was an amazing experience to be able to learn from the best in the industry.
This event also allowed me to connect with the cream of the crop, among the likes of Anna from Spellbound Weddings, Pine’s Garden, David and Fen from Axioo and David from Live Studios (who is now a partner in our current studio!). I saw firsthand the attempt to unite people from this industry and was extremely encouraged by it.
People’s Association Vow Renewal
We were invited to do a pitch for a PA event in January and eventually secured the project to plan and decorate a vow renewal ceremony for 50 married couples living in the Sembawang area. Within a short time, we had to plan the programme, the theme, the stationery design and the games among many others. Held in Beaulieu House at Sembawang Park, we witnessed many old couples pledge their love to each other once again. Being Asian, we shy away from showing affection to our loved ones, especially in public, so witnessing the ceremony really warmed our hearts.
Full-fledged Indian Traditional Wedding
Another first in our book would be the full-fledged Indian wedding we planned for Reetu and Pascal. The wedding lasted over two days and was traditional yet Western-influenced. Based in London, Reetu and Pascal came to us during their visit in Singapore to find wedding vendors for their Indian wedding in Shangri-La. We had many video conferences with them to finalise details and we’re proud to say that our wedding planning skills have gone up a few notches!
Pinterest-Worthy Wedding here in Singapore
Suzy and Fergus are one of the most beautiful couples we have served, and their perfect rustic wedding was held in our favorite place, The White Rabbit. It was special for us because we almost had our most favorite vendors and we loved everything about this wedding. The couple is one of the most gracious and nice couple and the whole family is just so kind. We love the theme of rustic, the venue, the photographer Ting from Ksana. We even have the bonus appearance of Ting’s fiancee, Sam from Samuel Goh!
We love the flower that Eunice from Heaven’s Wild Fleur did. She is also my personal favorite florist.
The wedding looks like straight from Pinterest page.
If you watch their wedding trailer by androidsinboots , you will know why this wedding blessed us so much. Their love for each other and the family behind them are so warming.
Bridestory Styled Shoot
We had the honor to plan and design a styled shoot together with Bridestory, and handpicked the vendors that would be able to execute our vision beautifully. Find the full post on the styled here.
Our move to 50 Niven Road
Since last year, Dawn, the founder of Ektory, and I (Hellen), have been searching for an office space to share. While it was only after doing a few projects together did we get to know each other, we were connected by the same aesthetic vision. After many rounds of searching, we found the perfect place in Niven Road. Together with other like-minded partners such as Movingstills (a sister company of Live Studios) and Iris Wave, we are creating a new way to serve couples in the future.
In short, 2016 is the preparation time for the breakthrough that we will have in 2017!
PS: I will also start another website to document my journey as creative mumpreneur and our behind the scene. Stay tune!
