Rosette Designs & Co: Classic Chic Styling Part II

On one fine day, in Rosette Designs & Co compound, when we are feeling a little nostalgic and romantic… we decided to roll up our sleeves and dress up, by digging up our black and white collection and do a little styling.

Here in Rosette Designs & Co, we have a common obsession. We love Black and White. Stripes, checkered, chevron.. love love love…Black and white can’t go wrong. It is listed in one of Kate Spade’s 20 Inspiration Yearbook.

But of course, only the brave ones embrace it for a wedding. Please see our works in our website here.

“If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast” - this quote by Ernest Hemingway might be one of the thousands reasons why everybody adores the idea of Paris. While the city itself might not be as romantic as the mental image, we are still spellbound by the idea of eloping to the City of Love.

If you are keen to do a Paris-theme wedding, please focus on one specific era of the Parisian life. Whether it is Belle Epoque, the Chanel-era, Renaissance, they have distinct characteristics that separates them from each other. Another way, is to focus on the city itself and it’s beauty.

We created this lovely arrangement that housed the silhouette of one of our couple. Love how it turns out.. graphically poetic..

Introducing our best steals yet, emerging from one of the vintage flea market in Singapore.. this mellowing fellow has been a regular resident in our decor line up.

Blog template 1505-09

There’s something romantic about the idea of writing letter on a typewriter, which leads to the trend of having it on a wedding. Although this trend was popular around 2-3 years ago, people still loves it. I used it for my own wedding and for my clients. Vintage won’t go out of style.

IAN_8179

What puzzles me is the fake-all metal-China-made-typewriter that actually mimic real typewriter…

Blog template 1505-10

But having a typewriter is good just for the display sake… because when I tried to type a letter using my retro Olympia, it frustrates me! Where’s the backspace key??!

Guess I’m not ready to give up my digital life.

Now, lets step aside from the mellow zone to an after party of Minty Dessert!

We love seafoam or minty of tiffany color.. they are look-alikes.. and they bring the same feelings.. coolness personified.

Introducing Our New Website!

Finally our website is up and running!! After a long period of juggling everyday work and designing this website, finally I can proudly say, “Please go to our website!”

The link is www.rosettedesigns.com.

Inspired by a French memory board that I saw in Europe during our honeymoon, this design doesn’t really follow the typical look of a website. I always love pinning my inspiration on a board and while now we have Pinterest to do it digitally, the analog form of an inspiration still holds dear to my heart. So, this is my way to share my obsession of a gorgeous board. The look of the website is non-traditional, fun and whimsical. It reflects on our taste and value in designing every wedding. It should be fun and pretty, without losing your own identity.

Nothing changed, the passion is still the same (even stronger) and the works still fabulous.. the best part, the team remain intact and ready to do bigger and prettier weddings.

Inspiration from Wedding Decor in Jakarta

Recently I watched this interview from Axioo TV about choosing the right decorator for your wedding. The host interviewed Johan from Lotus Decor, one of the most sought after wedding decorator in Jakarta, aside from Nefi Decor and Suryanto and many more. It also showed the “typical” wedding decor in Jakarta. When I said typical, it doesn’t mean the decor is ugly, without effort or below average. Instead, the typical wedding decor in Jakarta is over-the-top, lush, beautiful and a huge production setup. To transform a huge ballroom that can sit 1,000 pax into a garden with tall trees, are common. Furnitures, table consoles, cupboards are part of decoration. Drapping the wall with your color theme is not even an option, it is a norm. Sky is the limit when it comes to decorating one hall, because budget might not be a problem for the bride & groom since most of the time both families or parents pay for the event. It is 2 families’ big event after all.

Here are some of the decor by Lotus Design

I’m still at awe every time I attend a wedding in Jakarta. The effort and dedication to every single details is impeccable. Of course, it is subject to personal taste, but I’m judging solely by amount of work and items that was used. It’s so inspiring to see the public high awareness for fine decoration and the creativity of fellow designers. One of my inspiration is works by Sally (Tea Rose Wedding), she’s very talented and have quirky taste for unusual props and very detailed decor. We went to the same high school in Jakarta and started working on this line at approximately the same time. Here are some of her wonderful works:

While the wedding industry in Singapore has yet to embrace beautiful decoration fully, the trend is here to stay as more and more couples aim to personalize and yearn for beautiful wedding of their own. I believe God has a plan for me in Singapore and it’s my calling to share the talent He gave me my love for decor & design.

Here are the beautiful images to inspire you!

We (Still) Love Pinterest!

Forgive us for only joining Pinterest now! I (Hellen) have been a Pinterest fan & member since the phenomenon launched in 2010 (follow me here). We couldn’t believe somebody actually heard our secret wish for online pinboard! With the birth of Pinterest, I dun have to squeeze my memory of where did I see that cute boutonniere, because I already pinned it on my Pinterest board!

Sharing little facts about this wonderful tools:

In nine months, Pinterest reached 10,000 users (I’m proud to be the earlier batch!), now by 1 January 2012 they had 20 million unique users! Ben Silbermann (the founder & creator) net worth is 100 million dollar! And he is my age! (I have no problem revealing my age, but you have to google that..) Apparently, the beautiful site of Pinterest was created by 3 techy guys. I always know geeks will be the new cool, that’s why I married one. Haha!

Quite an amazing turn of event by the guy who was denied an appointment by some New-York magazine publishing company, for early investment.

On 17 May 2012, Japanese electronic commerce company Rakuten announced it was leading a $100 million investment in Pinterest, alongside investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, and FirstMark Capital, based on a valuation of $1.5 billion.

Eat your heart out, some random New-York magazine publishing company.

I love an underdog story. Well, everybody loves an underdog story.

Enjoy our catalogue and please follow us for new updates!

Does that sentence sound familiar?

Everybody who has a Facebook account or page would understand that “Likes” do count. But as somebody that doesn’t go around and like every Facebook page that comes her way, I’d say, “Please like our page only if you like what you see!”

Until our website is up, you can see our portfolio here!

She Says: Have a Lovely Year Ahead!

No doubt 2012 has been the most interesting and life-changing year for me so far. We have a few additions to our little family, a cute baby and a capable helper. I’d never imagined myself to be one of those mothers who is pushing a stroller with a helper following behind. It is perfectly fine and increasingly becoming a common sight in Spore. It’s a norm in Indo to have a Suster (nanny) to take care of your newborn. I grew up with helpers too. Guilty. However my helper has become my secret weapon in order to continue my passion in design & my normal life as a working adult. I couldn’t imagine juggling motherhood, work and business.

Another exciting news is that Diary & Design Wedding is expanding! We are currently undergoing corporate restructuring, so don’t worry if you can’t get to the website. We are still around, but it will not be the same anymore. It’s gonna be better! Yay!

So here’s a sneak peak of what I am currently is up to. A little greeting for our lovely readers.

Wish you a lovely and fabulous year ahead!

She says: Uber Chic Wedding @ Yacht

Some of you might know that I am closely linked to Ian Photography. This creative and fast growing company grew together with this blog as we were his first client back then. Of course it doesn’t hurt that Ian was one of my disciples in church and Irene is my sister. I took credit for matchmaking them at the earlier stage. Now the link is further deepened with their marriage! Check out the pics here at Rosette Designs & Co gallery

I am really proud of this uber creative couple. Seeing them grow and blossomed as a couple and as business partners is a privilege. Nothing short of drama, sometimes thrilling, inspiring yet challenging. Mixing love and business can be a real pain in the marriage. Theirs wasn’t immune to it either. However, thank God that despite all the drama, they decided to put business and differences aside. Love conquers all.

Always a fan of their works, I knew their wedding will be picture perfect! Shoot by their second line, Bunny&Co, their wedding is ultra chic. Salute to the couple who always dares to be themselves and not confined by tradition & pressures. Love every bits of the details, starting from their wedding e-invite.

Irene & Ian came up with the theme Sail Away, with white & Navy blue as the main color. The decor & design is super chic! The wedding favor is sailor hat for female and bow tie for male. All the guests followed the color theme closely. The result was picture perfect wedding!

She says: Inspired Me!

I haven’t blog for a while now and I know I should do it more often. Juggling many tasks and wearing many hats has been a routine now. Although I might sound like a workaholic, I enjoyed the busyness and long working hours I have to put up with. Torn between 2 worlds, I need to stay afloat. It is the desire for beauty and it is the eagerness to transform dream into reality that keeps me going. Currently I am doing a few weddings that involved creative juice and handiworks.

I blogged in Diary & Design Wedding and put up the boards there. Check out the full post here.

These are some of the boards for projects I am working on. March- April have been a peaceful months and soon it will be the bustling seasons again.

She says: Whimsical Seaside

Early part of this year, we did a wedding design and decor (CHAPTER FIVE) in Aloha Changi Chalet. The couple is very sweet to each other while the bride is very passionate about her wedding theme. They already engaged a wedding coordinator so we came in as their decorator. It’s always good to have a professional coordinator to handle your wedding, no matter how small the affair is.

The inspiration for this wedding is the whimsical color theme (pink, yellow and blue) and the cheerful gerberas. Jerelyn (the bride) loves gerberas so muc, she intended to grow her own! It’s rather hard to do it in Singapore, so we gave her heart’s desire on her wedding day.

We love when a wedding carries consistent theme beautifully! Just note on the wedding at the seaside, the wind can be hazardous! We hung streamers on the tentage ceiling, but it kept blowing away. Turns out the strong wind gave a surprise dynamic angle to the streamers which we didn’t expect. The weather was so good, despite of the raining season in January.

Congrats to Jerelyn & Adrian for such a beautiful wedding and marriage.

She says: Meet The Stylist ~ She does Wonders!

Ever wonder why the spreads in Martha Stewart Weddings magazine are so pretty? Even the image for corner articles look gorgeous! The lighting, the choice of items, the models, the background color, the layout, the item placement. All the elements come together to tell a story with high aesthetic style.

The answer lies on this individual : the Stylist.

I drool over fashion spread and decoration spread on Martha Stewart Weddings every season. Hence I am very inspired to read Holly’s (from decor8blog.com) interview with Shana Faust, freelance stylist and ex-Martha Stewart Weddings deputy style editor.  I love her works and am so inspired to know how she started and how she worked each photoshoot.

Since I decided to take a plunge into this industry, her story become more relevant to my passion. Being an awesome stylist like her is my long time goal. Every wedding that I style, will be aiming at magazine’s photoshoot quality. Not just any magazine, but Martha-Stewart-Weddings-kind-of-magazine. Toast to that!

Here is the excerpt of her interview at Decor8 :

Holly: And can you please tell us about the brainstorming and collaborating bit… More, more, more!

Shana: Styling is so much more than arranging everything you see in a aesthetically pleasing way. It’s more like communicating a story using things like color, lighting, texture, people, places and objects. I like to think of it like a movie, when you break it down into frames, each shot communicates something to the viewer, and an atmosphere and mood is created over the course. It requires a lot of imagination and hard work. The process for me as the stylist almost always starts with research — seeing what else has been done and thinking about new ways to present material. After that I’d start making some inspiration boards to help give the shoot some early direction. These boards often hold pantone chips, fabric swatches, swipe, and sketches. Next comes creating a “story board”. Loose sketches of what I imagine each shot to look like… what it contains, its palate, etc. etc.

Check out the full interview in Holly’s popular design blog. Don’t forget to check out Shana’s website too! You might need some inspiration for your wedding!
