She Says: We are Still Around Because Love is All Around

Finally! After non-stop wedding weekends  for 2 months consecutively, we have reached the end of our high peak wedding season.

It was a roller-coaster ride which is full of ups and downs, especially during this rainy season! I will one day write about having to manage your expectation when weather and acts of God is involved in your wedding. We had our painful share of the wettest scenario during a full outdoor wedding and trust me, it wasn’t easy to swallow the reality that you can’t have your dream outdoor wedding. In fact it can haunt you back if you don’t prepare to let go in the first place.

Many lessons and experiences we gained during this peak season, some amazingly fond memories and some was so traumatizing that it shook our passion of wedding planning and design to our core. Our patience and passion was being tested again and again. Despite all these, we are still standing here and marching forward. These are most valuable lessons that will be a strong foundation going forward. I may one day share with you about it.

One of the florists who has years of experience, told me that when the couple is nice, the flower will turn out to be better and looks nicer. Knowing that flower shipment is unstable, sometimes the flower blooms beautifuly and sometimes it looks dull, I took it with a pinch of salt. But after doing so many weddings, I couldn’t denied the facts that it was rather true! I wouldn’t say much about the characters, but rather the attitude towards marriage and to each other. Wedding shouldn’t be bigger than the act of marriage. Sometimes we can be too consumed with the wedding, the decor, the DIY stuff that we forget the reason we are having this wedding!

I can unapologetically say, that in my opinion, the best part of the wedding is the picture perfect, gorgeous decoration setup, before any guest steps in and anything starts. The perfect looking color coordinated dessert bar, tall glittery centerpiece, fun and creative props for photo booth. But that’s because I am very passionate about decoration and design. Wedding should mean much more than that!

At the end of the day, it’s not really that flower decoration that you remember, but the memorable moments in the wedding, the faces you see, the romantic moments with your chosen one.

The wedding will be perfectly wrapped in Love. As the Good Book said, Love Covers All.

To sum it up, LOVE  should be the main focus of a wedding. And don’t forget to let go and let God.. especially if you are doing an outdoor wedding in October- December. You will need a lot of that… Do check our latest works at Rosette Designs & Co here

She says: Photobooth Pictures

I am so pleased with our photobooth design. I designed the backdro. Although we are not happy with their way of treating my decoration when they transferred the structure to Conrad (they crushed my decoration!!), it looks great on camera.

Love the poses, especially baby Michela!

Read our process of creating this backdrop here, and my inspiration behind this photobooth wall here and here. This one is Winston’s inspiration.

Even my parents were spotted at the photobooth!

She says: Ceremony & Celebration Pictures

While we are still waiting for the official pictures from our talented photographers, here are some of the pictures of our event.

The run down of the event:

  • Gate crashing at 1pm
  • Ceremony at 5.15pm (cocktail was provided from 4.30pm)
  • Reception at 6.30pm
  • Band started at 7pm
  • Ended with Bride & Groom send off at 8pm

Thank God for good weather on that day… my dream of getting married under the tree was fulfilled… Thanks to Susan, Dorinda, Eunice and others for beautiful pictures!

During the vow

My lovely bridesmaids (L-R : Dora, Clarissa, Irene, Imelda, Katryn)

Looking lost yet cute, in the vest and tiffany tie!

Pemberley Paperie team : Katryn, Hellen, Ricadonna

Balloon Mass Release!!

The bride, bridesmaids and bridal car

Groom additional!!

One of the highlight of the reception after ceremony was Pam and Fatt. The duo from Timbre@Old School which saw the process of Winston proposing (read the story here)

They were good and I like the chill out feeling they brought to our party. Both of us sang a Malay-Chinese number by Sheila Majid & Ryan Lin Yu Zhong.

Halfway through the party, the guests started to get into the dance mood. Although it needs heavy initiation from our part, eveybody is dancing and forming a big train that walk round and round across the venue. They dance to Nobody, Just Dance, Billie Jean, I Gotta Feeling, etc. We didn’t plan this, but it happened and we totally love it. I’m glad I choose this mermaid dress. Nice, simple and allowed me to dance the night away!

She says: 9 Days to Go! – Photobooth Checked!

9 more days to go! I had my hair dyed dark copper. I made a mistake of coloring my hair black 5 months ago. The hairdresser already warned me not to color it black, but I insisted and thought I’ll be fine.

Yeah and 5 months later, it took 2 sessions back-to-back to get a colored hair. I kinda regretted to dye black, but I wouldn’t know unless I try. So now, my hair is back to where it belongs, the World of Color.

Winston joined me recently by dyeing and cutting his hair. He is not the stylish type but he’s trying to. So it’s a good effort of him to sport a funky hairstyle. A friend of him blessed him with $100 voucher from Chapter 2. After the cut, he has the same hairstyle with the stylist! So I guess I will choose the stylist based on their hairstyle.

Another thing that we checked is our photobooth! 8 ft x 8 ft backdrop will be covered by the black and white stripes fabric with rosettes decoration. It’s so pretty, I can eat it! I have been contemplating about the backdrop for a long while. There is a gorgeous fabric at Spotlight that matched my color theme but it cost $15/m and I need 5 m. So I had been going back and forth to Spotlight for 4 times, wanting to buy but not 100% sure. It is rather too much with the rosettes decoration.

One of my housemate who is studying Fashion Design suggested for me to hunt at Arab Street. So last week Winston and I hunted for a suitable backdrop. I always love black and white stripes, it has been my thing for a while, so when I spotted this awesome fabric for just $5/m that complimented the rosettes, I bought it!

I am so glad I followed my intuition. I couldn’t ask for a better backdrop for my photo booth. It’s super awesome!!

Here’s a sneak preview of the backdrop!

My other talented housemate will do the props. Our house is a designer’s nest. We have fine artists, fashion designers, graphic designers, motion graphic artists. I will do a post specially for these incredible creatures of Roselane.

She says: Things to do (still)

4 weeks to go and we still need to settle some things. Most of these things are more our “wants” than “needs”, and most of the stuff is for our outdoor wedding. We are really enjoying this wedding, don’t we? *grin*

  • Booklet for Matrimony
  • Cotton Candy Machine
  • Backdrop for Photobooth
  • Props for photobooth
  • Cupcakes
  • Lanterns for cocktail table
  • Special montage
  • Sparkles for send offs

Pure indulgence! Wedding is only once in lifetime, so if it’s possible strive for whatever you want!

*provided the budget allowed, ours already burst by the way*

She says: Booth #2 – Photobooth

We have covered photobooths in our earlier post here (Winston’s edition) and mine, and this time we are serious about it!

Our marquee vendor, Outdoor Wedding Specialist has agreed to build us the backdrop, while I will design the background and print it on PVC as big as 12 ft x 8 ft. We will spice it out with props as well. Here are some ideas.

They also sell the smile stick, but I lost the link to the shop! It’s in the US.

(Please help, anyone!)

I will make our own version, so stay tune! It’s gonna be fun!

We tested it during the Halloween party here, it was a hit!

She says: Thriller Night @Normanton Park

I never went to a Halloween party before, so when we were told we are going to hold one, we got very excited. It was initiated by group of people from our church to just get together and have fun with friends. Our group is in-charge of the decorations. Clarissa did a fantastic job designing the decoration! Thumbs up!

Winston did a very good job MC-ing! We really dressed up that day and have fun.

I didn’t take a lot of pictures because I was having too much fun. Good thing we set up a Cemetery Photobooth, Andrian from Ianphotography lent his talent and professional setup, making our photobooth a hit!

We had witches, Sinbad, Drag Queen, Scream, Suicidal Britney Spears, Hulk, Johnny Depp version of Mad Hatter, etc..

He says: Photobooth Walls (Poor man’s edition)

Hellen has been harping on the idea of having photobooths for our wedding. I know it is new among Singaporeans and hopefully our friends and relatives are game enough to let their hair down to take some funny pictures during our wedding!

As I mentioned in ‘About Us’, I am the more practical and budget-conscious kind… so my idea of a good photobooth wall is this:
