She says: Destination Wedding is Awesome!

I just came back from my best friend’s (Katryn and Arie) wedding. In my humble opinion, their wedding is the one of the most well-thought and detailed wedding I’ve ever seen. The bride is one of the OCD species, which translate to compulsively detailed and orderly. She is the most well-planned bride I have ever encountered. Making the job of her decorator and wedding organizer supposedly easier, but  turns out to be more pressurizing. Her demand for perfection is high, and the vendors need to at least meet her expectation. Since it is held in Surabaya, East Java, 670 kilometres from Jakarta, we have to turn to the local vendors for logistic and decoration. It was a tough decision but with the right direction and references, the vendors managed to do a great job.

Katryn is one of the founder of Pemberley Paperie, together with me and Ricadonna. Hence, her paper products are done by Pemberley in extremely crafty manner. Including the place card, menu card, thank you gift, additional favors, fantastic program book and signages. Katryn is the mastermind of the whole design.Three of us have different taste, Rica is modern and graphical, mine being whimsical and fun and Katryn is classic and a traditionalist, which is depicted well in her wedding.

Hotel Majapahit was chosen as the venue because of the authenticity and historic value. This hotel was build on 1910 and has survived the first World War to second World War. It was built during the Dutch occupancy as Oranje Hotel and was well-preserved by the various owners, including Mandarin Oriental. This hotel held many historic moments in Indonesia’s journey for independence.

They found this hotel from the magazine and fell in love with the big raintree in the middle of the garden. However, tragedy befell on this majestic tree in one fateful storm. It fell and crushed the fountain beside it. They wanted to get married under that tree.

That didn’t stop them from getting married in this gorgeous hotel. With the help of our decorator and strict direction from Katryn, we managed to pull out the backdrop setting that was just perfect for the holy matrimony. With hanging lights and old vintage chandelier among the cluster of leaves, the altar looks rustic yet bore the vintage mark with the wooden table in the middle. Kudos to Veronica and the team from Surabaya!

If you can spot the grand piano beside the altar, you know you are in for a romantic treat. Maria, one of the bridesmaids, is a talented pianist who doubled up as the serenader for the ceremony. One thing I must comment is the flexibility and the can-do attitude from the hotel, which really helped us to achieve our dream wedding.

The bridesmaids wore apple green long dress and carry flowers in rattan umbrella. Very Classy.

I won’t give out most of the pictures in this post. The day photographer will provide much better pictures of the detail in the decor. As he did to my wedding, Andrian from Ian Photography will do justice to this ultra-chic wedding. He is like our family photographer.

The fantastic garden. You can only see the ceremony site from this angle. Wait till you see the rest of the section. Prepare to sigh… in the next post.

Winston posed with my flowers in the presidential suite.

She says: Best of Outdoor Wedding

We had 2 photographers for our actual day, Feldberyl and Ian Photography. It was meant for different purposes based according to their strength. Both have strong aesthetic values and softer feel that I like, yet they churned out different style of pictures.I love the spontaneity that Wansheng (Feldberyl) captured, he basically recorded the mood of the moments as it is. He has eye for great unnoticed moments. But Ian from Ian Photography shot most of my money shots. Thanks to his advertising background, he naturally captured each picture with commercial added value. You can see his work for Pemberley here

Now, this is the last outdoor pictures of my wedding. After this, we will move on to new and exciting topics with Diary & Design Wedding. This wedding is one of the projects of Diary & Design under the category of Full Planning (Chapter THREE) or if you are interested just for the design look and coordination, look for Chapter ONE.

Enjoy!

We danced the night away and ended with row of sparkles. Best night ever….

She says: OMSQ – Hidden Treasure

Our outdoor venue is really a hidden treasure in the heart of the city. I really like our venue, not only the place itself but also the location. My office is in Dhoby Ghaut and sometimes I will visit OMSQ during lunch time to visualize, measure the space and to familiarize myself with the place.

I am inspired by Jung Lee, the founder of Fête New York, one of the hottest wedding planner in New York. In her book, she disclosed her habit of spending time in the venue for a few hours to observe and visualize it. I think that’s a great trade secret.

In our church, our pastor taught us the power of visualizing. You must see it in your imagination before it comes to past. If you can see it, you can have it. I need this practice to put my creative mind to work. I am no wedding planner, this is the first time I am doing it, so I need a lot of preparation. I often hear my friends complained about their wedding after it happened. While I do know, there will be a lot of things beyond my control on the actual day, I can rest assured I have done my best and have no regret.. what if I have done this or that.. Winston can testify that I often laments, ” I’ve should done this.. if only…” So on my big day, I’ll do my best not to say that….

Today, I went there again. This time to measure the traveling time from MRT and to determine where to put the wedding sign. So these are the proposed location:

(Winston’s note: However we are contemplating whether to minimize the traveling of the guests by foot… well, I am thinking about it)

She says: Do-It-Myself Paper Rosette/Pinwheels Idea

I have done a lot of research on DIY projects for the decoration at the outdoor venue. One can easily be overwhelmed by the multitudes of ideas out there. Bringing in florist will be the prefect solution for an instant wedding feel. But I wanted more than just flowers. We also don’t have high budget for florist to turn this raw venue into paradise! So I have to think of alternatives other than the usual.

One of the decoration element that captured my eyes is pinwheels. Aside from the facts than I love paper products, I love the fun feeling it generates, the endless creative possibilities and the feasibility of producing it! I definitely going to couple this gorgeous idea with my doilies theme.

She says: Color Palette for Outdoor Event

We are in the midst of our outdoor setting preparation. It’s a real challange as I am not a trained wedding planner or a professional decorator. I just trust my eyes and taste to put up a great decoration. I will also depend on my great and talented friends to help me pull this off, along with my mentors in wedding blogs.

Yesterday I was blown away by this workshop. It is utterly gorgeous! French flare meets rusty Tiffany..reminds me of Alice in Wonderland..

Especially the paper rosette, since I am planning to make them. I love the color  scheme (similar to mine). So I decided to add coral color to the palette. Lovely!

She says: First Recce for Pre-Wed Shoot

Andrian and his girlfriend, Irene went out for the first recce, scouting for best location.. started from the overly-done Botanical Park. It’s a common location for photo shoot, which unfortunately didn’t give us what we are looking for.. a clear blue sky.. instead its white all over..

However it’s still a nice series of photographs. Mind you this is not the final, just a location scout.

Here’s the pictures…

Just as a trivial info, Irene is also one of my bridesmaids, and my sister….(a real one!)

She says: Decoration Ideas for Outdoor (Part II).. We found our outdoor venue!

After spending a day “Treasure-Hunting” for our outdoor wedding venue, we came across a wonderful, secluded, un-commercialized, shady place. It was one of those moments, when your expectation isn’t high, but you were surprised by the outcome. When I visited the place, I knew we found the ONE place I’ve been looking for.. I never heard of it, not even in any of our list. After being disappointed by the no. 1 in our list,  ”Raffles House” (*That’s it???Is that the tree we saw in the picture???So smalll?????*), we are very pleased when we went to this venue. I love the ol’ and cozy feeling the place evoked.  We’ll keep it secret! It’s a surprise!

The hint: it’s still in town area..and have a huge old raintree which is perfect for reciting our vows and very affordable!

The best part I have carte blanche to execute tons of ideas from my mind.. I’ll share some with you.

She says: Tips on outdoor wedding

Among all of the many decisions being made about your upcoming nuptials, choosing where to hold the reception is one of the most important and time sensitive. Before you do decide on flower arrangements or dinners, you have to figure out where you would like the reception to be. Outdoor weddings under a pop up tent are becoming increasingly popular for those summer weddings.
Think about the last wedding you attended and remember what made you feel comfortable and what fun ideas stuck out from other weddings. Planning any type of reception is no small matter, moving it outside is no different. The best place to begin is by getting a pop up tent or canopy tent for all of the guests to gather under.
Renting an instant canopy is crucial when planning an outdoor wedding reception. While the majority of outdoor canopies provide a spacious yet personal touch to the whole outdoor wedding theme. A quality pop up canopy will provide some well needed shade from the summer sun as well as protect your guests from unfavorable weather conditions.
Here are a few of the more popular outdoor canopies that you may want to take a look at before making a decision:
• Party canopy – This particular pop up tent is a lightweight tent designed to protect from both the sun and rain. Installation is easy, and inexpensive to rent in comparison to other types.
• Pop up canopy – Another lightweight tent with collapsible-frame fabric. Installation is also easy.
• Frame tent – Frame tents are a basic instant canopy with a metal frame and no center poles.
• Tension tent – The tension tent is built with high center poles and a steeply sloped ceiling. The high ceiling gives off a more open feeling.
• Pole Tent – Using poles around the perimeter and in the center, the pole tent is practical for poor weather conditions.
The size of the pop up tent is quite important in terms of how you plan on it being used. There’s no harm in renting one slightly larger than you actually need. Keep the size of the pop up canopy in mind and when planning how your guests will be seated. Don’t forget to figure in the bar area, cake table, band area buffet tables, and dance floor.
Color of the pop up tent also plays a large role in the type of wedding reception you’re planning. The traditional color for outdoor canopies is white. However, you can easily find a canopy tent in a wide variety and combinations, depending on the theme and mood of the wedding. An example I like to use is a romantic wedding underneath starlit night sky would be perfectly complimented with a translucent ceiling pop up tent.

We are in the mood of outdoor wedding! I found good tips on preparing an outdoor wedding and I would like to share them with you along with the pics:

She says : Decoration and table setting ideas for outdoor venue

While we are still searching for the “right” venue for our holy matrimony, I will share my inspiration and the setting ideas for outdoor venues.

Of course most of the pictures are taken overseas, where the weather is much more cooling in the afternoon, so they have more options for the outdoor ceremony. For us, most probably we still stick to the high tea timing of 4-7pm . Although we want to push it to brunch or luncheon, I think the groom will be covered by sweat by the time he says the vow!

table

I like the blue ribbon againts the white napkins on the right down pic, with blue centrepiece. I think blue tiffany works better with white. It gives me idea for our table setting.

# 1.Wedding Inspiration : CHRIS + JAYME

When an associate creative director marries an art director, you can expect creativity in every aspects. But when the art director is working in Martha Stewart Weddings magazine *the bible of nuptial celebration for some*, you should expect even more. And yes, they didn’t disappoint me, their wedding is simply beautiful and warm.

She says: Outdoor Venue Candidates

Following Winston’s post on outdoor venues, I’ll add a few pictures from my research.

burkill2dscf1249

Burkill Hall @ Botanical Garden. Our first choice, because they have a nice and spacious outdoor garden and indoor building for the catering, so we can save the tentage fee. But they are not open for booking till further notice.. *so sad!*

20070725130115_78791878620070725125842_2068967203

Gardenasia@Sungai Buloh Wetlands… It is in some ulu place which I have no idea where it is, but still can be considered.

seletar015607201

Seletar Country Club.. it’s rather far I guess.. but it can be a nice option. I dont have the information about it but u can call Roy at 6486-0872 or email weddings@seletarclub.com.sg for a discussion.
