She says: Hands-On Brides

There is a notorious term for this breed of bride: Bridezilla. Bride that is involved in every details and want to be in control of her wedding. This term has a negative connotation yet more and more brides claim to be one. My lovely fellow bloggers, Josephine, is one of them. For me, I couldn’t care less about the attributes, but I wouldn’t claimed to be a bridezilla (I have the impression that bridezilla drives everybody crazy).

But I am definitely a hands-on bride.

Nowadays brides are more tech-savvy. There are tons of very useful information on the internet, so many inspiring weddings out there. I love clocking my spare time looking at wedding blogs from the US. So much inspiration and so generous in sharing their ideas. I’m just sometimes amazed at how people just generously giving templates or DIY tutorials. I love that spirit! Everybody can have their own personalized wedding.

Surprisingly (yet predictably), I heard more lamentation than joyful noise from brides-to-be. Most of my friends expressed their frustration with the family members’ intervention in their wedding planning. I guess that can be a sore point. For most Asian, wedding means 2 families joined together, and more often than not, everybody wants to chip in their thoughts. Not to mention the superstitions!! There you have the joy-sucker culprit.

We might need to work harder to incarnate our dream wedding, than our counterparts in the Western world. They have the benefit of vast choices of venues and the unorthodox wedding design, where the limit is only within your imagination. However, we shouldn’t bow down to the limitation and surrender to the circumstances. Wedding only happen once (hopefully) and no matter what is the size of your budget, you can have a one-of-a-kind wedding. Because you are one-of-a-kind person!

I believe in the future, there will be more and more hands-on bride than *bo-chap brides!

*bochap (Hokkien): couldn’t be bothered

That’s why I love to work with passionate and positive vendors.

Here’s my bouquet reference for my florist:

PS: Recently my account in Singapore Brides Forum was suspended without any warning or reason. I tried emailing them twice to no avail. I am rather upset, though. However, Singapore Brides forum has been a great source for Brides-To-Be and Grooms-To-Be to plan their wedding. I benefit much from this forum too. I hope they recover my account soon.

We say: My ows.com.sg Dream Wedding!

Step back in time with us, as we present what is essentially our take on a perfect dream wedding… our very Victorian-Inspired Wedding!

Theme of the Wedding: Vintage-Rustic Theme

Our style is to be elegant, antique and classy. To make use of items such as vintage cars, personalized favors and antique furniture to bring out the feel.

Here’s the inspiration board..

Wedding Theme + Colour Scheme

The colour scheme includes pale blue, dusty blue, pewter grey, peach and creme. We want to evoke the feel of the olden days with a little twist of blue.

Just like the ol’ saying from Victorian age:

Something old, something new
Something borrowed, something blue
And a silver sixpence in her shoe.

The main idea is to create the illusion of outdoor and indoor. Outdoor feel for the Matrimony and Indoor feel for the reception. While both events are held outdoor, the props and the decoration stimulate this idea. For holy matrimony, we bring the guests to the street of London with the lamp post, faux windows, fairy lights hanging above the guests.

The idea is drawn here:

Indoor Decorations + Aisle

Other than the Victorian lamp-posts, we will make use of Victorian-inspired furniture for the chairs and the ROM table.   Right above the table, we will have our silhouettes, representing our union in this wedding. The main flowers used is wild roses.

Reception Ideas:

Outdoor Decorations

For the reception,we are transforming the outdoor setting into huge living room. We use gazebo tentage to house some of the long tables, while the other long table will be outside.  Each table is decorated with vintage props and wild roses. We also bring in the fireplace, sofa and cupboards as  props.

All of the furniture is in rustic condition. It’s possible to find these items nowadays, thanks to the growing trend of vintage-like-stuff. They produces new furniture and give it faux finishing and Voila… it looks 50 years old!

The involvement of these furniture will bring another layer of vintage feel to the wedding.

Extras – Booths:

To spice up our vintage wedding, we are including booths as an added elements. A dessert booth with the most mouth-watering candies and a photobooth for our guests to be remembered in our pictures.

Design of the Photobooths

Using vintage wallpapers and old photo frames of various shapes and sizes, the guests can utilize all the props to leave an everlasting memory in this wedding.

For us, this will be a perfect dream wedding setting!

She says: Preparing for the Big Day

Ever since we started this blog, I received comments from fellow brides-to-be, saying that they are glad to see somebody else is also preparing intensively for her wedding. Some even said, it makes her feel less odd…

It gets me thinking, seems like it deems “odd” to go the extra mile for your wedding preparation. I often get a lot of amazed look from friends and vendors when I show them my wedding file.  I have never prepared wedding before (*duh), so I have no idea how others prepared their wedding. I guess, creating your own moodboard and researching for every single things, is not common and worse, you get labelled Bridezilla! I like this blog from an amazing lady who is not afraid to call herself Bridezilla, her blog is super-detailed and resourceful! Check it out here.

I am used to doing inspiration board, color palette, sketches because of my background. So it is expected of me. What is extra ordinary, is if you are an accountant and you do an inspiration board. You get a bravo from me!

So, dear readers, how would you prepare your wedding? If you don’t have the luxury of time, best if you can hire a wedding designer to do all of these for you!

*Maybe I should consider to be one…*

Here are some excerpt from my journal, and wedding folder. Winston bought me a gorgeous white wedding file from kikki.k, “My” series. Thank you dear!
