Introducing Our New Website!

Finally our website is up and running!! After a long period of juggling everyday work and designing this website, finally I can proudly say, “Please go to our website!”

The link is www.rosettedesigns.com.

Inspired by a French memory board that I saw in Europe during our honeymoon, this design doesn’t really follow the typical look of a website. I always love pinning my inspiration on a board and while now we have Pinterest to do it digitally, the analog form of an inspiration still holds dear to my heart. So, this is my way to share my obsession of a gorgeous board. The look of the website is non-traditional, fun and whimsical. It reflects on our taste and value in designing every wedding. It should be fun and pretty, without losing your own identity.

Start from About Us, a short introduction on who we are and a link to meet the founder and principal designer, (ehem…) Hellen Lie. As most of you might know (or not) that I co-founded Diary & Design Wedding together with a fellow planner. Cut the story short, starting this year, Diary & Design Wedding is no longer in operation and both of us have move on with our own things. So this is my thingy now! Nothing changed, the passion is still the same (even stronger) and the works still fabulous.. the best part, the team remain intact and ready to do bigger and prettier weddings.

Real Wedding: Jeremy & Cheryl

It is a custom in most Chinese families to have a proper wedding dinner banquet. Especially in Singapore, where we are based, hotel dinner banquet is the norm. They comes with a convenient package of food, decor, wedding favor and even invitation. Which can be dummy-proof and a very safe option to save money (or spend more depending on how you see it) and for fuss-free couple. However, increasingly we see couple putting more effort and heart into their wedding banquet.

We are featuring one of our client’s wedding, Jeremy & Cheryl. Their wedding embodies the good example of mixing their personality in the traditional setting. Adding their whimsical personality  into the Victorian setting of the Four Seasons ballroom, shows that they’re a fun and loving couple. We designed this board for them, Classy with a Twist. Jeremy who is also a designer himself, wants to have a well-designed, well-coordinated wedding matching their personality.

Here’s the actual wedding montage:

Instead of the usual flower centerpiece, we had a bowl full of windmills doubling up as wedding favors.

The reception area doubled up as solemnisation venue before the the rest of guests flocks in.

Fancy those backdrop stands in the red carpet event that printed the event or company’s name? Why don’t you do it for your own wedding. Jeremy & Cheryl had their names printed all over the photobooth. Talking about branding your own wedding.

The other special items are the wishing table with vintage typewriter for the guests to type or paper to write in their wishes for the couple.

Who says photo gallery can only display pictures? We brought in a vintage cupboard to display their memorable mementos to share with the guest.

We did the bird theme for their stationery and it carries on to their birdcage angbao box.

This wedding proves to us that even a hotel banquet wedding can be fun and personalized. It was really nice working with such a creative and lively couple.

Real Wedding: Jasmine & Lionel

We have come to know many brides over the years and hardly seen one that is truly committed to her dream of fairy tale wedding. Jasmine is bold and proud about being a Princess Bride. That’s why we love Jasmine’s theme of Fairy Tale wedding with lovely carriage icon and array of sweet indulgence. Pink and pearl is the ultimate symbol of femininity, so who can resist it?

Here’s the collage of her wedding:

Inspiration from Wedding Decor in Jakarta

Recently I watched this interview from Axioo TV about choosing the right decorator for your wedding. The host interviewed Johan from Lotus Decor, one of the most sought after wedding decorator in Jakarta, aside from Nefi Decor and Suryanto and many more. It also showed the “typical” wedding decor in Jakarta. When I said typical, it doesn’t mean the decor is ugly, without effort or below average. Instead, the typical wedding decor in Jakarta is over-the-top, lush, beautiful and a huge production setup. To transform a huge ballroom that can sit 1,000 pax into a garden with tall trees, are common. Furnitures, table consoles, cupboards are part of decoration. Drapping the wall with your color theme is not even an option, it is a norm. Sky is the limit when it comes to decorating one hall, because budget might not be a problem for the bride & groom since most of the time both families or parents pay for the event. It is 2 families’ big event after all.

Here are some of the decor by Lotus Design

I’m still at awe every time I attend a wedding in Jakarta. The effort and dedication to every single details is impeccable. Of course, it is subject to personal taste, but I’m judging solely by amount of work and items that was used. It’s so inspiring to see the public high awareness for fine decoration and the creativity of fellow designers. One of my inspiration is works by Sally (Tea Rose Wedding), she’s very talented and have quirky taste for unusual props and very detailed decor. We went to the same high school in Jakarta and started working on this line at approximately the same time. Here are some of her wonderful works:

While the wedding industry in Singapore has yet to embrace beautiful decoration fully, the trend is here to stay as more and more couples aim to personalize and yearn for beautiful wedding of their own. I believe God has a plan for me in Singapore and it’s my calling to share the talent He gave me my love for decor & design.

Here are the beautiful images to inspire you!

A little treat for the princess bride, wherever you are. Whether you flaunt it proud and loudly or quietly at heart, we all once want to be princess. That’s true when they say, “Be A Queen for A Day” on your wedding day! Here’s works by Annie Leibovitz, one of my favorite photographer, and her interpretation of the Disney’s princesses.

We (Still) Love Pinterest!

Forgive us for only joining Pinterest now! I (Hellen) have been a Pinterest fan & member since the phenomenon launched in 2010 (follow me here). We couldn’t believe somebody actually heard our secret wish for online pinboard! With the birth of Pinterest, I dun have to squeeze my memory of where did I see that cute boutonniere, because I already pinned it on my Pinterest board!

Sharing little facts about this wonderful tools:

In nine months, Pinterest reached 10,000 users (I’m proud to be the earlier batch!), now by 1 January 2012 they had 20 million unique users! Ben Silbermann (the founder & creator) net worth is 100 million dollar! And he is my age! (I have no problem revealing my age, but you have to google that..) Apparently, the beautiful site of Pinterest was created by 3 techy guys. I always know geeks will be the new cool, that’s why I married one. Haha!

Quite an amazing turn of event by the guy who was denied an appointment by some New-York magazine publishing company, for early investment.

On 17 May 2012, Japanese electronic commerce company Rakuten announced it was leading a $100 million investment in Pinterest, alongside investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, and FirstMark Capital, based on a valuation of $1.5 billion.

Eat your heart out, some random New-York magazine publishing company.

I love an underdog story. Well, everybody loves an underdog story.

Enjoy our catalogue and please follow us for new updates!
