We say: My ows.com.sg Dream Wedding!

Step back in time with us, as we present what is essentially our take on a perfect dream wedding… our very Victorian-Inspired Wedding!

Theme of the Wedding: Vintage-Rustic Theme

Our style is to be elegant, antique and classy. To make use of items such as vintage cars, personalized favors and antique furniture to bring out the feel.

Here’s the inspiration board..

Wedding Theme + Colour Scheme

The colour scheme includes pale blue, dusty blue, pewter grey, peach and creme. We want to evoke the feel of the olden days with a little twist of blue.

Just like the ol’ saying from Victorian age:

Something old, something new
Something borrowed, something blue
And a silver sixpence in her shoe.

The main idea is to create the illusion of outdoor and indoor. Outdoor feel for the Matrimony and Indoor feel for the reception. While both events are held outdoor, the props and the decoration stimulate this idea. For holy matrimony, we bring the guests to the street of London with the lamp post, faux windows, fairy lights hanging above the guests.

The idea is drawn here:

Indoor Decorations + Aisle

Other than the Victorian lamp-posts, we will make use of Victorian-inspired furniture for the chairs and the ROM table.   Right above the table, we will have our silhouettes, representing our union in this wedding. The main flowers used is wild roses.

Reception Ideas:

Outdoor Decorations

For the reception,we are transforming the outdoor setting into huge living room. We use gazebo tentage to house some of the long tables, while the other long table will be outside.  Each table is decorated with vintage props and wild roses. We also bring in the fireplace, sofa and cupboards as  props.

All of the furniture is in rustic condition. It’s possible to find these items nowadays, thanks to the growing trend of vintage-like-stuff. They produces new furniture and give it faux finishing and Voila… it looks 50 years old!

The involvement of these furniture will bring another layer of vintage feel to the wedding.

Extras – Booths:

To spice up our vintage wedding, we are including booths as an added elements. A dessert booth with the most mouth-watering candies and a photobooth for our guests to be remembered in our pictures.

Design of the Photobooths

Using vintage wallpapers and old photo frames of various shapes and sizes, the guests can utilize all the props to leave an everlasting memory in this wedding.

For us, this will be a perfect dream wedding setting!

She says: D-I-M(yself) Bridesmaid Bouquet (Prelude)

Yesterday night I was experimenting with the stocks of flower I bought from Spotlight. Here is what I came up with. I really like it because it beautifully integrates 3 main elements in my outdoor wedding, rosette ,doilies and tiffany blue.

I will do a step-by-step post on this soon!

She says: Our Classic Wedding Band

Wedding band is the one that goes beyond our wedding day to God-knows-when, as long as we both shall live (hopefully). So, it must be something that we will love regardless of the current trend!

The answer is simply to choose something classic and timeless…

… and we did.

So here’s the story behind it :

Since our wedding theme is revolving around Tiffany’s theme, either the color or the theme (Breakfast at Tiffany’s), it’s just right to first visit Tiffany & Co. Their wedding band collection is pure simple and classic round platinum, only few have diamonds. I fell in love with the one with milgrain edge and no diamonds. We didn’t buy that day as we are still considering due to the cost (it almost doubles from other platinum-milgrain edge ring) and it is rather thin (2 mm).

Second attempt is online at BlueNile . They have a great selection of rings for a superb price. Good review and easy purchase. They also have milgrain edge platinum ring. My choice of ring has no problem but Winston’s ring is much more expensive, twice the price of mine. I am fine, but he’s not fine with such an expensive ring.

(One of our friends has a tragic story of accidentally losing his wedding ring to the garbage bin while throwing rubbish in his HDB!)

Third option and the most convenient is the jewelry chains. However, most of the jewelry chains I went to, have a more fancy and modern collection. Seems like squarish ring is in trend now, which is not my taste. Working near Plaza Singapura does help when it comes to looking for a ring, they have a few jewelry shops in the first floor. Once in a while I will check out the wedding band during my lunch time.

Among all of them, only Soo Kee have a classic collection, and better still they have milgrain edge-platinum ring.

After visiting the shop for 6 times in 2 months, we finally decided the time is now to buy THE RING. You Chun, Winston’s best man was also there to give his opinion. I was torn between a diamond ring that compliments my engagement ring or the classic milgrain-edge ring. It was hard!! But knowing my tendency to get bored easily, I stuck to my original favorite, milgrain edge.

The design has perfect thickness and perfect price! (a pair equals to one Tiffany ring)

Winston has always preferred milgrain edge no matter what I choose. So an identical pair makes a perfect wedding band!

(My engagement ring is also from Soo Kee!)

Additional bonus : a nice vintage looking ring box.

This is our Ring Cage with the box inside the cage. I will do a special post on this DIY ring cage. There are more things to do than just the cage and the box!

She says: Our Bridal Car and the Man Behind it

This is a tough call. I have to delete my previous post about our wedding cars.

To give you the background, I was browsing through WeddingCars.sg and fell in love with Mitusoka Galue. It’s a Japanese brand of luxury car that resembles classic styling of Bentley R-type, Rolls Royce and even Jaguar Mark 2.

We immediately booked it. But we soon found that the company policy doesn’t match our schedule and they are not flexible about it. It’s not a good start..

While we are still thinking whether to go ahead with it, my super-talented ex-colleague and friend, Josef Lee offered his car and help to chauffeur  us on the actual day. I always admire his retro Mini Cooper. It’s beautiful!

He is one of the people in the industry of media that I admire, in both his personal life and his work. His story inspired both of us. You might have heard about the winner of Singapore Woman Award by MediaCorp Publishing’s Vanilla Magazine, Molly Lee. She was diagnosed with cervical cancer 4 years ago but instead of losing hope, she started to encourage other cancer patients through her blog, WeAreWonderWomen. Such a courageous woman of God! Even after her departure to heaven, her work still continues through fund raising and such.

Josef is her husband and the creative director of very cool motion graphic house, Mojo. He also founded few cool websites, like  Start Drawing (portal for Asian artists/illustrators/designers) and Museum of Modern Fiction (Josef’s version of folk tales).

So after a discussion we decided to accept Josef’s offer. Not because of the monetary issue, but simply because we are really honored to be chauffeured by such a great personality! (plus a cool-retro-creme Mini Cooper!)

Here’s the picture!

He says: Our Wedding Videographer – Alvinadeline Weddings

With the actual wedding day slightly more than half a year away, we are locking down our major vendors quickly. In the past few weeks, we have decided on a few more vendors and we still have more decisions to make.

One of the decisions we made was with regards to our videographer. There are numerous wonderful wedding videographers in the market today, such as the uber-romantic Substance Films and the vibrant people from Moomedia Pte Ltd. But with Hellen, we collectively decided that Alvinadeline Weddings will be our wedding videographers for our Holy Matrimony Ceremony.

We met Adeline on a Friday evening, along with one of our brothers, Kevin. Adeline was a pleasant lady who showed us their works. But what struck me personally is her similarity to another vendor we have, Wansheng. Like Wansheng who was an engineer before dwelling into wedding photography, Adeline was a former accountant, before venturing into the unknown of wedding videography. Initially I mistook Alvin and Adeline as a couple… but they are actually siblings working on a wedding business. We did see Alvin later in the evening although it was not planned, but the smiles from the siblings assured me that they are truly passionate about their work. It is always great to work with people that does not treat the wedding business as a ‘business’, but as a ‘lifestyle’.

For the videos from Alvinadeline, they are heavily influenced by Western works, but due to the clients they work with, the tinge of ‘Singaporean-ness’ is still there, which is by itself not a bad thing too. This hybrid of East meet West provides a backdrop for classy works that are not too tacky, but still exuberates a romantic feel through their videos.

Here are some of their works for your viewing pleasure:

She says: Bridesmaids Dress

I just recently learnt from one of the top wedding planners in Singapore, that bridesmaids and sisters (jie mei) are different.

(Editor’s notes : Jie Mei is the bride’s wedding entourage in Chinese culture who are supposed to guard and test the groom before they let the groom in to fetch the bride.)

So what’s the difference?

In local context, it is the uniform dress.

Only bridesmaids wear the same color / same dress and march in before the bride.

(The last row picture is from Norman & Amy’s wedding via Feldberyl Images.

So nice to see a color-coordinated bridesmaids dress. This practice is not very common in Singapore, because usually jie meis are treated as bridesmaids. Now that I know, that is not the same.

So I bought my girls, the same blue dress and accessories. Instead of flower bouquet, I think I prefer parasol. But I’ll still consider. I am still thinking of tailor making another dress with Tiffany color, but only if budget allowed (pray hard, girls!).

Here are some gorgeous blue bridesmaids dress for your inspiration.

If you have the budget to spare and want to splurge on your girls, consider this amazing dress by TwoBirds. Its a dress that can be wraps into 15 style. Check out the video tutorial, it’s mind boggling! Looks so easy and superb!

Downside : it costs USD 320

She says: Booth #2 – Photobooth

We have covered photobooths in our earlier post here (Winston’s edition) and mine, and this time we are serious about it!

Our marquee vendor, Outdoor Wedding Specialist has agreed to build us the backdrop, while I will design the background and print it on PVC as big as 12 ft x 8 ft. We will spice it out with props as well. Here are some ideas.

They also sell the smile stick, but I lost the link to the shop! It’s in the US.

(Please help, anyone!)

I will make our own version, so stay tune! It’s gonna be fun!

We tested it during the Halloween party here, it was a hit!

She says: Booth #1 – Desserts Bar

We envisioned our Holy Matrimony to be romantic, rustic, yet fun and full of activities for the guests. We have prepared 4 booths to entertain the guests and best yet, live music.

We are going to talk about them individually. So start with the first one :

DESSERTS BAR!

Personally I am not a big fan of candies or cookies. I don’t have a sweet tooth. In fact the bitterer (if there’s such a word) the chocolate the better. I love Royce dark chocolate and 85% dark chocolate Winston bought from Stockholm.

However, girls love desserts for different reason, and for me, it’s visually stunning and creatively fertile. Check out these gorgeous desserts bar.

The top row is from : Bake It Pretty via one of my fave blogs Inspired Bride

The second row images are from the desserts bar guru, Amy Atlas. She’s the best so far!

It’s my inspiration for desserts bar as the color theme matches mine. They even have the DIY version of everything. What’s not to love about it?

Bringing it closer to home, here are some of the desserts bar from local wedding planners (Singapore). Although it’s still a growing interest, no doubt they are gonna get bigger!

She says: Our Pre-Wed Photo – Blue-Bay, Taiwan

We have received our edited pre-wed pictures last week. Although it’s supposed to be a surprise on the actual day, we decided to give a sneak preview for the sake of the readers who might not have the chance to see the actual album.

Looking at the pictures, we are actually quite pleased with the outcome. We must really thank our fantastic photographer and make up artist, as well as the DI artist ( I wish my arms are that lean! haha!). If you followed our story in Taiwan, you will know our disappointment with the weather. But thank God, the pictures came out great. Of course, I wish I have more landscape or blue sky or nice white building, but Winston always says, “Regret is a waste of time!”

So no regrets!

Here are the pictures, enjoy!
